Old Colony Elderly Services Alerts Elders and Disabled Veterans of October 15th Filing Deadline for Economic Stimulus Payment
DATELINE: PLYMOUTH COUNTY AND AVON, EASTON AND STOUGHTON, MA.
According to the IRS, there are an estimated 117,000 retirees and disabled veterans in Massachusetts who normally don’t file a federal income tax return
but may be eligible for the stimulus payment.
OCES is a private, non-profit Aging Services Access Point (ASAP) that provides valuable programs and services to seniors, their families and caregivers. The agency can provide guidance to seniors and disabled veterans who need assistance filing a federal tax return prior to the Economic Stimulus deadline of October 15th.
According to the IRS, older Americans and disabled veterans who have no tax liability and who have no requirement to file a tax return because their income is too low or nontaxable, may receive a stimulus payment of up to $300 ($600 for married couples) plus a $300 payment for each qualifying child.
Old Colony Elderly Services Explains Question 1 on November 4th Ballot for Elders, Caregivers and Their Families
DATELINE: PLYMOUTH COUNTY AND AVON, EASTON AND STOUGHTON, MA.
Question 1 proposes a law to reduce the state personal income tax
rate to 2.65% as of January 1, 2009 and to eliminate the tax beginning January 1, 2010. A “yes” vote will enact these reductions; a “no” vote will make no change to the state’s income tax laws.
OCES employs 130 staff and provides services to more than 4,600 elders, caregivers and families each month. These services include home health aide, personal care and medical transportation that are vital to many home-bound, frail elders in our communities. In addition, every month we respond to more than 600 inquiries for information and referral, perform 150 long-term care screenings and deliver approximately 23,000 lunches through the meals-on-wheels program.
According to most reports, the income tax produces $12.5 billion, or 40%, of the entire state budget. If OCES’ budget is reduced by 40%, we will be forced to decrease services to some of our most vulnerable citizens and eliminate jobs. This could mean that 1,800 elders will lose home care services, 9,000 meals will not be delivered and at least 50 employees will lose their jobs.
Non-partisan? not in North Minneapolis
What does it mean when an organization says their “non-partisan”? Non-Partisan means showing no support either way to an event, person or political candidate. In Minneapolis especially among the non-profits and faith-based organizations the opposite is true. This election year many 501(c)3’s have chosen to align themselves with one or more political candidate. This becomes evident with the large gathering of non-profits and Faith-Based organizations in Minneapolis holding political forums and events.
In Articles of Incorporation filed by each one of these organizations in the State of Minnesota, usually in Article III it reads, “No substantial part of the activities of the corporation or organization shall constitute the carrying on of propaganda or of attempting to influence legislation. The corporation shall not be participants or intervene in any political campaign on behalf of any candidate for public office”. This election year there are multiple violations as it pertains not being non-partisan and aligning organization with a driven agenda focused on a political candidate or issue. These organizations (faith-based and social service) are in direct violation of IRS tax-exempt status due to the actions of a few “pundits” and “HNIC’s”.

They got the idea from another friend who brought back bags of the local coffee to sell through his church. They wanted to help a lot of children but wanted a way to generate consistent donations over a long period of time so they could really help a lot of children. They joined the Café CoopeTarrazu Farmer’s Co-Op which enabled them to make purchases from a local group of 2500 farmers. Then they began importing the coffee that is now sold as Mission Grounds. The Magic of Online Fundraising With Digital Download Products
Online fundraising is becoming increasingly prominent and accepted…and why not? You don’t have to go door-to-door, or stand out in the cold, or by your own children’s candy just to satisfy the commitment. With digital download products, you are not just asking for money. You are delivering real products with real value. It is not just looking for a hand-out (although that can be appropriate sometimes), it is giving a hand in exchange.
So what are digital downloads? They can be eBooks. They can be software. They can be still images. They can be videos. They can be audios. Anything that be downloaded directly from some Web Site is a digital download product. They are dead simple to sell online…especially when it is for a worthy cause.
Everyone understands selling cookies, or popcorn, or books, or candy to raise money. You sell a box of cookies for Ten Dollars and your organization gets to keep Five Dollars for your cause. You have to get the order. Take the money. Get the products. Deliver the products. You walked miles, or stood for hours, or physically humiliate your co-workers to get the orders. It was all hard and not terribly efficient.
Non for Profit
Non For Profit
Non for profit is a charity on profit is another way of saying not for profit but is sometimes used to describe a for profit that is having losses. Non for profit insurers (mutuelles) try to differentiate themselves from private insurers on the basis of the so-called “fraternal” (the French word is “solitaire”, aimed at indicating that the contract is not risk-rated, but also invoking a religious connotation of fraternity, a working class connotation of friendly societies, as well as a political connotation of redistribution) : they designed a charter forbidding underwriting as well as exclusion for conditions. A non for profit is a corporation, but one that relies on good will and public interest. As with any industry, working for a non for profit will offer situations that will both excite and aggravate you. In anticipation of searching for or accepting a non for profit job, you should spend adequate time investigating and weighing the benefits and drawbacks of the position, so you are prepared for what lay ahead.
Your Guide to Capital Campaign Success
A capital campaign is a significant project for a nonprofit organization. A successful capital campaign, and the completion of the project for which funds are raised, can be a transformational event. Ideally, when viewed in retrospect the capital project will appear as a logical and inevitable step in the development of the organization as it strives to fully serve its audiences and community.
With careful planning and keen attention to detail, a capital campaign can be a powerful bridge to the future.
A successful campaign is the result of many constituencies working together for a common goal, including the board, staff, volunteers, donors, and community representatives. As the project grows from an idea to a proposal to reality, a Campaign Plan is key to success. A comprehensive plan provides a framework for action and a template that is transparent and universally accepted. It is a document that speaks both internally (to those who are managing the campaign) and externally (to those who may be asked to contribute or who may be impacted by the project). As campaigns are multi-year, a clear plan also serves as a guide if key team members drop out and new team members are brought in.
1. The Goal
A key element of success is to accurately estimate the amount of money needed to be raised.
