Air Cleaning by Crossflow Wet Scrubbers
Oleg Systems Co. is a designer of industrial airscrubbers for dust / fume collection and air cleaning. Wet type dust collectors / air scrubbers are available in numerous designs utilizing a number of principles and featuring wide variation in effectiveness, initial cost, operating and maintenance expense, space, arrangements and material of construction.
Wet type dust collectors are liquid (usually, but not necessarily, water) to capture and separate particulate matter (dust, mist, and fumes) from a gas stream. Some scrubbers operate by spraying the scrubbing liquid into the contaminated air. Others bubble air through the scrubbing liquid. In addition, many gybrid wet scrubbing designs exist.
Oleg Systems Crossflow Packed Bed Scrubbers are used in environmental control applications which require contaminant gas absorption with or without particle removal, as well as in odor control applications. The process involves a scrubbing liquid flowing vertically through the scrubber mixing chamber perpendicular to the contaminated air stream. The mixing chamber contains packing material which maximizes contact between the two streams, facilitating contaminant absorption of the scrubbing liquid before falling into the collector below.
Dust Collectors
Oleg Systems Co. is a designer and manufacturer of industrial dust collection systems including dry type dust collectors. Dust collection equipment utilizing the principle of wet dust collecting is available in numerous designs utilizing a number of principles and featuring wide variation in effectiveness, initial cost, operating and maintenance expense, space, arrangements and material of construction.
The use of centrifugal force to throw a dust particle to the periphery of an air stream has been used in the cyclone collector for many years. Dry centrifugal dust collectors can be divided into two basic groups cataloged by their effectiveness in removal of smaller dust particles.
Cyclone Dust Collectors are frequently applied for the removal of coarse dusts from an air stream, as a pre-cleaner to more efficient dry or wet dust collectors and / or as a separator in product conveying systems using an air stream to transport material. Principle advantages are low cost, low maintenance and low pressure drop (in order 0.75″ to 1.5″ WG), but this type dust collector can not be used for collection of fine particles.
Q&a: Mike Colicchio, Celanese Hungary
SSON: In this current economic downturn it’s very important to keep robust lines of communication open throughout the business. Can you tell us a little about the steps you’ve taken at Celanese to enforce this?
Mike Colicchio: Of course. We’re carefully monitoring our overdues and looking for any signs of softness in our very structured collection process. I stay in close contact with our sales directors in the EU and we strategically determine proper collection protocol in these challenging times. Being a relatively new SSO our recent hires have received exceptional training and job-shadowing; however, being rookies they’re not as well-versed on the qualities of different types of customers. They also need to understand the histories of our customers, and even when the customer is also a vendor. This is sometimes a point of interest. I bring the sales directors to Budapest for a “learn the customer” day. To serve our customers we must understand their customers. This gives the sales organization leaders and the credit and collection staff an opportunity to set expectations and parameters, but most importantly it opens up even more the communication channels, which is tantamount to success today.
